Brushy
Creek's Board of Director's strives to make your home owning experience
enjoyable. A brand new idea from your BCHOA is to make the home repair
company selection process as easy as possible. Meaning, when the time
comes that you need to call someone or a particular company to repair
something or install a new appliance in your home, you can call on these
contacts because other Brushy Creek residents have had positive experiences
with these resources.
If
you know of a company that you recently used and you would like to refer
them to your neighbors, please let us know by e-mailing
us today and we'll post that companies service and telephone number on
our web site.
Be
very, very careful picking somebody to remodel your home. Do not hire
people who drop fliers off in your mailbox, or who ring your doorbell
and tell you your roof or gutters need fixing.
For
a minor renovation job, take recommendations for a remodeler from friends
and neighbors. For a major renovation job, anything above $10,000, get
recommendations from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry
(NARI) or the Remodelors Council of the National Association of Home
Builders. Update!
Ask
candidates for your remodeling job for the last 10 homes they've worked
on, a description of what they did, the dates they started those jobs,
the dates the jobs were completed, and how to contact each owner.
Ask
what kind of insurance each contractor carries. Protect yourself by
hiring people who have a current certificate of insurance or by making
sure you have enough liability coverage in your homeowner's policy in
case someone who's uninsured is hurt on your property.
Don't
sign a standard builders supply house contract for a remodeling job.
Instead, consider using a contract from the American Institute of Architects
(AIA).
Get
subcontractors to waive their right to place a lien on your home if
they aren't paid by the contractor.
Never
agree to any contract that calls for a large payment up front. Devise
with the contractor a reasonable timeline and pay schedule, under which
the contractor is paid as work is completed. In the contract, include
penalties against the contractor for failing to complete the job on
time.

"My
wife and I had a pretty simple problem. Our toilet was clogged, really,
really well! We called around to a lot of plumbers on a Saturday morning.
This company sent out a nice young fellow who told me the problem. He
then gave me a quote and said the policy is, if that's not the problem
and I can't fix it for the quote I gave you, Rooter Plus will pay for
it. It turned out it was a clog that was very deep. He 'snaked it' and
then helped us increase the amount of water to the flush valves in each
of our bathrooms. Our toilets work great now because this young guy
knew what he was doing, solved our problem and didn't charge us a trip
charge or over charge us for the problem. Very reasonable and we would
call them again."

"ICC,
Yvonne and her husband were just terrific. They came on time as promised...were
polite, friendly, knowledgable and thorough. The price was great and
my wife and I feel as though we've made new friends. We talked for days
now about how much we enjoyed our experience, their friendliness and
can breath easier. Since my wife and I are expecting a baby on a budget...this
was the best decision we've made as it concerns our home. Thank you
ICC!!! You're the best!!!"

"My
wife and I had a dishwasher leak. Turns out it had been leaking for
a very long time and termites had some through our slab and into our
kitchen cabinets near the moisture of the dishwasher. We called Northwest
and they came our just 2-days after Christmas 2006. They gave us a fair
quote and a great treatment. We've had the bond ever since...and fortunately,
all we had to replace was the dishwasher and there was no damage to
the cabinets. Northwest cleaned up their trails and 'foamed' our slab."
